At this age, I believe kids need to learn how to learn. While individual factoids and vocabulary are important, I strive to impart to the kids methods they can use to find information they don’t know, ways to make connections between what they do know, and a life-long enthusiasm for finding out more. In 8th grade, kids build different carbon-based molecules with gumdrops and toothpicks. The kids get to watch to bonding between carbon and hydrogen in a 3-D, sticky way that keeps them excited and engaged! |
