Teachers Lead by Example During Tour de Tucson

La Paloma Academy faculty and staff model healthy living through participation and support of local cycling event

Tucson, AZ (11/09/11) – This November, La Paloma Academy teachers and staff members hope to inspire their students to stay active, healthy, and involved in their community. More than a dozen La Paloma faculty members will participate in this year’s El Tour de Tucson bicycling event, leading by example how to be active and healthy while also doing their part to support a good cause. The La Paloma faculty members participating in the Tour will be sponsored by the school.

“La Paloma faculty, staff and students will be cheering on Tour participants and looking forward to hearing about our staff’s experience upon their return to school on Monday,” said La Paloma Superintendent Raena Janes.

El Tour de Tucson is one of the largest road bicycling events in the United States and brings together thousands of bicyclists from all over the U.S. during the annual event. The Tour offers different course options depending on level of experience. Riders can traverse the 111 mile or 85 mile course, a 60 or 42 mile route, or join the 6, 3 or ¼ mile Diamond Children’s El Tour Fun Ride. El Tour de Tucson cyclists raise funds for various charities, including Tu Nidito Children & Family Services and Diamond Children’s Miracle Center. This year’s 29 th Annual El Tour de Tucson takes place on Saturday, November 19.

Since its inception in 2002, La Paloma Academy, now the largest and fastest-growing charter school system in Southern Arizona, has made it a priority to provide a wellrounded, character based education with an emphasis on community service.
